Winter Maintenance for Your Toyota

Maintenance is essential for your Toyota to work properly throughout the year, but particularly in the winter. When you are driving in rough weather and traveling to and from family for the holidays, the increased wear and tear can lead to problems finally showing up as you drive. What winter maintenance should you have done for your Toyota?

Winter Maintenance for Your Toyota

  1. Clean Your Car: Road salt and snow can damage the paint on your car and even lead to rust. Wash your car thoroughly throughout the winter months to remove any rust-causing elements from your car.

  2. Check Your Battery: Have you ever left your house on a cold winter morning only to find that your car won’t start? A weak car battery can survive the summer, but it will probably not be able to survive the winter. When you complete winter maintenance for your Toyota, you can have your battery tested to make sure that it is fully charged. If necessary, it can also be replaced with a new battery that will last you through the winter and beyond.

  3. Put on Winter Tires: Regular tires are not appropriate if you will be driving in snow and ice this winter. Instead, you should switch to winter tires when the weather starts getting cold. Traditional rubber tires will start to harden when the temperature drops below freezing. This decreases traction and increases the risk of a collision or other accident. Winter tires will give you great traction even if roads are coated in snow or ice.

  4. Check Your Heater: Your heater is one of the only things standing between your passengers and the icy chill outside, so make sure that it is working when you take your car in for winter maintenance for your Toyota! Turn on your heater and defroster and see if they are pushing out warm air after they have time to warm up.

  5. Swap Your Wiper Blades: Wiper blades are important for repelling snow and rain off of your windshield and maintaining proper visibility. If your wiper blades haven’t been replaced in a while, you should put on new ones as part of winter maintenance for your Toyota.
